"Gate of All Nations" , Achaemenid Empire, capital city of Persepolis

The Breathtaking Persepolis

Built around 515 B.C., Persepolis was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire. It’s founder Darius I the Great contributed to the biggest territory extension of the empire. On the Achaemenid sovereign’s monumental tomb, in Naqsh-i Rustam, near the beautiful city of Shiraz, you can read the following carving in cuneiform characters:

“I am Darius the great king, king of kings, king of countries containing all tribes, king of this great earth and beyond, son of Hystaspes, and Achaemeid, a Persian, an Aryan, of Aryan lineage.”

This gorgeous image is the remains of the main Gate of this majestic city (Gate of All Nations, Persepolis).
